Ants

There were 5 ants in my sun room, and then another 5.

Now I have tenants.

Seriously, I came down this morning and the little feckers were everywhere - crawling over the table, the floor, the walls.

Took a Dettol spray to the whole place and wiped it clean?

I don't know whether to be worried I have a problem or not.

Anyone any experience with this type of thing?

I'm fine if they stay in the garden, but the feckers aint welcome in my house.

TIA

They are labour party supporters, they are called workers, so the backbone of the uk.

But if you want to use a tory ploy us Nippon.

There’s been loads in my back garden the last few days.

In my old house everyone now & again I’d notice them in the kitchen which is right by back garden.

Never could see exactly how they were getting in but when I noticed them in bigger numbers & indoors I put ant powder ( Raid, about £4 ) all along back wall & that stopped them real quick.

I’m no expert on these things but in my experience the warm weather always brings them out in bigger numbers

Good luck.

Mid to late June is the time when you get flying ants. So might be an important time for ants.

Another thought, it's pride time and they are out marching .

They are normally looking for soemthing sweet and/or fruity to eat, if they find something a message is passed back to the nest and a whole load of them will arrive.....as long as they don't find anything they will usually disappear on their own. You can buy ant spray or powder from supermarkets, you just need to watch them to see if you can find where they are coming in and spray the spray or powder there.

It’s the time of year

They are swarming

Will probably disappear in a week or two

Just don’t leave anything sweet lying around

We had a minor infestation a couple of days ago. Ant powder did the trick as did pouring boiled water down the drain where the little sh*ts were coming from.

I've had that a few times. Once there was a line of them from the front door, where they got in through a small gap, to the kitchen, and back again. Don't know what they'd found, but peppermint oil on the trail scrambled their sense of smell and stopped them completely. I can also recommend peppermint oil for mice. They loathe the smell and leave.

Oh, I saw a mouse in the garden the other day, too.

Sounds like I can kill two birds with one stone.

thank you

You can also buy an insecticide pen mainly used for flies and you run it round the edge of windows where flies inevitably tend to buzz to while trying to get out. The same pen can be used along edges where you identify the Ants entering/exiting. But the peppermint oil sounds a more humane option.

Place jar lids with any thing sweet in them jam honey outside your home they love it monster where there and are coming from they cover the ants with ant powder they will take it back to the nest see where they go then give the area a good powdering and repeat regularly. Never leave food out on work tops in this weather or fruit in baskets

Thank you all - your knowledge is really helpful.

Since wiping down the sun room yesterday, there's hardly any now at all.

I think the main colony is in the soil near the back door where I have shrubs planted.

I've ordered ant power and peppermint oil to be on the safe side.

Ants at this time of year often enter buildings. They're just looking for food. They do absolutely no harm whatsoever. Remarkable little things and absolutely vital to our ecosystems. Please don't kill them. Look for where they're getting in and get some ant powder around the area that'll keep them away.

Absolutely this. Ants are incredibly intelligent and work together like no other creature. I don't get this boiling water malarkey,or poison, they're on the hunt for food most likely, but some fruit outdoors and they'll move away.
