Technically, Christmas and Boxing Day are Bank Holidays... Just teasing tho.

I've not been on hols yet! I go to Sitges for 10days 2nd week of Sept.

I've enjoyed the lull at work as all my colleagues have been off. Now they're all heading back...I fly off for some sun sea sand and sex!

Since retiring just another day. When I was working they used to be a nightmare. Often ended up working even longer hours and if I did have to call staff in then I had to pay them time and a half.

Time and a half, on a Bank Holiday it should be at least Double time, and I can remember a time when you got Double time + a day off in Leiu for working a Bank Holiday

Head office dictated. I got double time on Christmas Day only. One hotel chain I worked for would not pay salaried heads of department any extra for bank holidays but insisted we all worked rather than the paid-by-the-hour staff. We were told we could take a day in lieu BUT it had to be taken within 3 weeks or lose it. Sometimes that was impossible.

"Bank holidays should be abolished "

I completely agree, bank holidays are now a totally outdated notion in today's age, they cause huge problems - particularly on the transport network and tourist attractions and associated trades when Bank holidays totally overburden the workload for the staff of all the services involved, including wider services such as the already stretched resources of the emergency services and NHS.

What is your solution? Abolish the national holiday altogether or do you think there is another way?

I think every country on earth has national holidays.

Well, England and Wales observe 8 bank holidays, Scotland has 9, and Northern Ireland has 10.

Given the UK's diverse cultural landscape, it's worth considering standardising the number of national holidays across the UK.

Perhaps introducing 10 flexible holidays that employees can take at a time of their choosing would be a more inclusive approach.

This would allow individuals to celebrate their own cultural or personal milestones, rather than adhering to a fixed schedule tied to traditional Christian holidays. By giving workers the autonomy to choose when to take their holidays, we can better reflect the UK's multicultural identity and promote a more inclusive and harmonious society

Or better still, do as they do in Sri Lanka and have a bank holiday for all their religions' many holy days. I was there for 2 weeks and they had 4 in that time; 2 were Christian, 1 Buddhist and 1 Muslim

I'm going to Shrewsbury steam fair on Monday. Love all the mechanical magic in those shows. And the love and attention given to the steam powered huge monsters. To actually be next to one as it huffs and hums is great, plus everything auto makes a great day for me. Only thing to make it even better would be some cock whilst I'm around there.
