Currently having a coffee, went on the app to see who was near...came up "within touching distance" any idea of the proximity of the fellow fabber.

Can't say I've ever noticed that before

I've seen "within a mile" loads of times

Touching distance must be within 100m or something

No but look around deliberately and see if you can catch someone’s eye.

Be aware the locations are sampled every few minutes so it’s likely he could have left by the time you pick it up.

Have seen within touching distance before and absolutely no one anywhere close. I think it also shows if someone has switched off their phone at that location

I've had 'Within touching distance' a good few times.

It can mean next door or maybe 100 metres away. So my guess is likely within 100metres.

Touching distance for me is the the pub at the end of my round and round the corner.

I would say 75m - 100m - so not really as close as you'd imagine

It’s all down to phone GPS which is extremely accurate but sites like this use a “blurred” version of the actual value for privacy and security. This puts you in a circle of a certain radius - say 100m from where you are, and yours also has that so you could be 200m away. And for added security, that blurred circle can be made to change slightly too. So “touching distance” might be, but is usually much further away.

There's a lad shows up fairly regularly as within two minutes walk. A couple of weeks ago he showed as within touching distance, while I was at home, maybe he was walking past the house at the time. Anyway, next time I looked he was back to the usual two minute walk.

I don't know how good the GPS accuracy is, perhaps it can be affected by atmospheric conditions to give slight variations.

Possibly deliberately and randomly inaccurate for privacy and security. A standard process called GPS jiggle.

Touching distance is usually very close but not literally touching distance. I travel for work and stay in hotels, it's pretty common to see someone within "touching distance". Sometimes this has meant they are a few doors down the corridor, other times they have been in a building next door.

A guy who lives up the road from me - about 30 metres - shows up as touching distance; another guy, who's sometimes around the corner - about 130 metres - shows up as a 2 minute walk. So I would agree with others who say that touching distance is, perhaps upto about 100 metres.

I’ve had this message numerous times, and indeed it does mean within very close proximity a matter of yards in some cases I’ve found, however there is often a time lag, so sometimes I’ve missed guys that are walking by?

I’ve had within touching distance. Usually in adjacent hotel room or on the floor above/below, but I also had a touching distance in a train station waiting room - looked up and there he was on his phone across the room. He smiled, but left to catch his train. Nice-looking guy too.

A guy on another forum thread told me touching distance goes up to about 50-100m away. If shows if someone turns on who's near me, and sure you can see that can last up to 20 mins after they are offline.

Think if the person stays logged on and has near me turned on it will track them as it refreshes, oftherwise if they log off it stays where it last picked up their signal??

Which is a good thing. Do you really want complete strangers to know exactly where you are?
