Bye bye Mandelson!

Starmer's sacked him. About bloody time, slimy opportunist chancer. The facts were not unknown.

There is an angle that hasn't yet been covered: the cosy relationship between Blair, Mandelson and the JP Morgan bank with particular reference to the sale of Sempra Commodities, a division of the then taxpayer-owned RBS, to JPM...and Blair's JPM salary being paid off book.

Popcorn, please, flunkey.

Sadly true. The depth of the grift and the blatant complacency will take a decade to rival.

But we have to see where they go.

Proved more incompetent 14 months than the last lot did in 14 years.

As for Mandy he has been sacked more times than Boris

You have to laugh at the ones forever sniping at the present government. Were they asleep for the 14 years of the lies, sleaze and corruption of the last lot?. Give this Government a chance, or let Farage and his Ilk into power, god help us if he ever does, he is nearly as bad as Johnson with his lies.

Divine retribution. Nemesis. Tit for tat. Call it what you will. I predicted this government would be tarred with sleaze just like the last one. I also predicted the naysayers of the last government would get upset if anyone dared to criticise Starmer and his government.

If, as predicted by some we can look forward {????] to a Farage government then expect a cornucopia of sleaze if Reform councils are anything to go by

But that’s exactly the point , we voted for change and we certainly have not achieved any. No sign of any coming soon either, except the 20 billion black hole is now 50.

I'm not hearing much from The Blessed Tony on this one. (When once asked if he had ever visited Epstein, Tony declined to comment) Morgan McSweeney (long ago recruited by Mandelson to be an advisor to the Blair government) apparently got Petie the Ambassador gig.

One problem for Starmer may be that he is regressing the party to its old Blairite model, with old Blairite people, but has failed to reintroduce the principle that spindoctors instruct ministers, and not the other way round....

"The Blessed Tony was Mandy's puppet..."

(WWH, above)

There's a lot in that, but I think this is refines the idea:

Mandelson and his ilk - MM "...(while key politicians in their own right) do not do so (make all the decisons - MM) as they would themselves wish: Their ability to influence Labour's agenda derives exclusively from the prerogatives of the party leadership. Their power is nonetheless significant; they remain "functional deciders" and wield considerable influence at the heart of government."

From - this may or may not be of interest:

His position looks precarious after a very bad week and some MPs expressing concern. Then again he was going to be ousted as party leader after the disastrous council elections back in 2021. According to the headlines of one paper Andy Burnham is positioning himself for a comeback. Would need to find himself a very safe seat first.

Starmer and Rachel have to navigate a very tricky budget first.

The option to have a neutral budget is gone.

She is going to have to upset some people.

It could rebound on Starmer.

He might not have the full term to fix things.

"Except I never said that re Reform.

Oh Dear."

No you didn't but, in the real world you are just going to have to accept that not everyone loves Labour or is going to embrace Labour. Opinion polls, whether you believe them or not, have got Labour at an all time low. People are looking elsewhere for allegiance and leadership. Reform are riding high at the moment but their bubble might burst. Their wondrous leader--St Nige the saviour of the Universe--might trip over his over-inflated ego yet. Before the next election--almost 4 years away--both Labour and the Conservatives might make a surprise revival. Both probably under new leadership.

I think that people vote parties out rather than vote parties in.

Labour could easily be the party at the helm when we experience a debt crisis.

The comparison with Labour in the 70s will be made.

The only saviours for labour now is a charismatic and more competent leader such as David Miliband if he returned to British politics or Andy Burnham .

Their time has coming

This is true. Labour only won by default last year. People wanted a change. They wanted rid of the Conservatives who had completely lost they way at the time.

We don't know what will happen between now and the next election.

If Reform can manage to build a decent message management system, it has a chance. Otherwise it's fucked by FPTP and only defined by its figurehead. Who is a very effective figurehead, but no more. The best thing they can do is to let Farage campaign until three days before the election date, and then fire him.

I believe "Lord" Mandelson is checking the spin-doctor ads now, and I'm sure he could adjust his single principle* to fit into Reform!

Ahhh Richey, but I'm better at spreading somewhat dubious politico gossip (That 'just might be true after all') than serious political analysis.

I've not heard about the 'Hidden family' one

I shall conduct a thorough investigation into this disturbingly duplicitous tidbit of domestic disgrace (via the depths of Reddit) and report back, eventually.

It already has heady potential to hint at shades of Josef Fritzel

He managed to build an international list of well known figures from all sides of the political spectrum.

I bet he had dirt on all of these people.

Will the truth ever come out? Don't know. Might take a long time."

So it is rumoured. Trouble is he needs to get back into parliament which means a Labour MP forfeiting there extremely safe seat. Plus we don't know what is safe anymore with Reform on the warpath and Corbyn possibly throwing a spanner in the works.

Right area but it's not safe enough. One of Reform's target seats. Besides I think Ms Rayner will sit it out until the end of this parliament. Think Andy is hoping to return soon.

What money has been taken off vulnerable people precisely?

Dangerous criminals released? That'll have something to do with the overcrowding on the prison estate. 14 years of tory administration including austerity didn't do much to solve that issue.

Doubled the deficit?????

Highest illegals. Was that problem solvable within a year?

No, what we have here is trademark tory chicanery. It's just not 🏏...

That is all true. Unfortunately, it must be said that Starmer has turned out to be a disaster, and the Labour Party knows it. He reinforces the truth demonstrated by Boris Johnson: the skills needed to win an election, and those required to perform in office barely overlap each other.

Completely lacking in judgement and political instincts, unable to convey any sense of vision for the country, vacillating one way then the other, deaf to everyone but McSweeney and a few others. Mandelson is only the latest of his own goals.

The clock is now ticking, and i don't think he has a clue what to do about it. The sooner he goes the better.

Your opinion of course and you are entitled to it. I of course beg to differ. Whilst admitting the Conservative government completely lost its way during its last 2-3 years in office, it could not have been that bad before otherwise it would not have been repeatedly re-elected.

As for your Sir Keir Starmer remember he wanted the job whether it was a poisoned chalice or not. To date he and is motley crew have not made much headway in sorting out the country's problems. Arguably made some a lot worse. He shows little sign of positive leadership and that is through poor decisions not his lack of personality. That is why there are rumbling in his own party and the likes of Andy Burnham are being touted as a possible replacement leader although I am sure other have got their eye on the job, poisoned chalice or not.

Starmer inherited we are told "a £20billion black hole in the economy" and Rachael from accounts was going to fix that. So how come we now have a £50billion black hole and economists are warning that Starmer's policies are tanking the economy ! Some change that was.

"Apparently, Mandy feels betrayed by his former confidant and bosom buddy Keir.

It reads like a lovers tiff .... things will all come out eventually.

No doubt the press are already digging for dirt.

And they will find it..

More to this story than meets the eye "

Much like the personal vendetta carried out against him by the young Ukrainian rent boys ... For some as-yet unspecified reason

"How can this government survive much longer,it's falling apart we need a strong government the way the world is just now

Have you already forgotten the Cameron/Johnson/May/Truss/Sunak mess?

The current lot aren't even close to their level of incompetence.. Cameron was ok. Johnson was the best Truss was a nightmare Sunak was sorting it out. Starmer bringing the country to its knees"

Johnson the best what? Lining his own pockets…more than Starmer, enriching his buddies? Wasting public money? His indecision makes starmer look like lightning, his evasiveness only matched by Mandy Mendelson…similar mo, lie, lose a job, get another, lie, lose a job rinse repeat..

Sunak only just managed to sort his non dom wife’s tax out…being chancellor for much of that time, then PM, seem to recall he didn’t quit or get fired…unlike the current crop of nose in the trough folk.

....

🤔Chaos as everytime El Spaffo procrastinated before he u-turned. Truss crashing the economy. Braverman as Home Secretary lol.

El Spaffo eh? Yet I get reprimanded for saying the slightest thing that isn't adoring praise for the great and glorious Sir Keir Starmer

...

...

🤔 Yup, it's a..........

nickname.

Reprimanded is ott.

My point remains the chronic memory malfunctioning of tories on here.

You haemorrhaged seats because leader after leader failed. A lettuce outlasted one of those leaders. The one who replaced that turkey didn't have the nous to know what he did in Normandy would be politically disastrous. The tories were farts in a trance.

Starmer inherited a poisoned chalice. Those with short memories overlook the obvious time after time.

Hear! Hear! I fully agree. 👍👍👍"

I do seem to recall a Stasis once the Truss & particularly Sunak took over, that meant kicking many cans down the road & setting many traps for any incoming government, they were pretty sure it was not going to be them, many discussions were had about the upcoming minefield should Starmer win, unfortunately that was in my circle, seemingly not in the Labour party. Not excusing how poor the response has been, but the dice were loaded. Now how many more metaphors can I squeeze in..

"I have never expected to see a Government and Prime Minister that are so hopeless useless as this lot.

Utterly pathetic. There's talk of busing Andy Burnham in as a replacement PM, a clear sign that there is no one in the Cabinet up to the job.

....

....

Johnson allowed Cummings to bully his way through Downing Street and Whitehall. Now that was pathetic. The so-called alpha male was a political cuck. Princess Nut Nuts also had too much sway.

Johnson was as weak as water.

Isn't it about time your lot - and its mouthpieces - stopped blaming the last lot? It makes you look like a bunch of petulant whiners, and it does nothing to solve our current enormous problems. Which have their roots in several generations of lousy government, by all factions.

BTW, who said this?

"Extremists are on the rise in Europe and are being fuelled unfortunately by the Euro project and by the centralisation of power in Brussels. It is increasingly important that Britain offers an example of civilised, democratic, liberal self-government.""

...

...

😭You've completely missed the point. The mentioning of Johnson was in order to briefly suggest there has been worse.

A point was made. A response was offered. 🤔

I've always been a Labour voter but Mandelson is creepy to say the least. How can you remain friends with a man like Epstein after he's been convicted. It's vomit inducing. Horrible man.

Johnson got rid of him after 6 months. Gove used him for years.

No, my Doric chum, no points were missed. In your partisan enthusiasm for your favourite bunch of grifters, YOU have missed MY point (intentionally, I think). That there is a long history of governmental incompetence, as practiced by all governing parties (I include the SNP). And that frothing about the last lot doesn't solve anything.

As Cummings (for it was he) remarked, correctly:

"Extremists are on the rise in Europe and are being fuelled unfortunately by the Euro project and by the centralisation of power in Brussels. It is increasingly important that Britain offers an example of civilised, democratic, liberal self-government."

(insert smiley here)

He has proved himself incapable of doing the job but the trouble is who would replace him? Chances are it would be a member of the current cabinet and they could be even worse.

How true they are I’ve no idea but rumours are circulating that they are trying to get Andy Burnham into parliament so he could replace him.

Spain France

For 14 years your country had a spluttering Government verging on unprofessionalism, political back biting, mismanagement of Brexit and pure incompetence.

Only to be replaced by 14 months of unbelievable incompetence, corruption and mismanagement of the fundamental issues facing the U.K.

But perhaps it’s meant to be … 3.5 more years of an incompetent and weak Left wing party with a spineless PM will bring a much needed change

In 4 years time the West will have strong leaders ……… JD Vance, Marine La Pen, Alice Weidel, Giorgia Meloni, Nigel Farage, Geert Wilders, Marcel Dettling, Viktor Orbán, just to name a few….

They will replace the woke dross - Macron, Friedrich Merz, Kier Starmer and the World automatically becomes a better place
