as a Yorkshire man by birth, the correct way is just Yorkshire's on their own with gravy, then the other food afterwards, the reason being is that eating the Yorkshire's first means the rest of the food can be made to go further, Yorkshire frugality lol x

If its what you're cooking it's what you are cooking. However, in ny house a Yorkie usually goes with roast beef and horseradish.

Sage and onion stuffing for chicken.

As an aside, I'm useless at roast spuds, but a foolproof alternative is to sautee them (parboil, quarter and fry). Use Maris Piper, which are made for this.

It's whatever your family traditions are.

In my house a yorkie is for a beef dinner. Roasted swede, creamed spinach and cauliflower cheese are other side dishes for chicken etc.

If I'm at a Toby Carvery you can guarantee I'm having one of those Frisbees whatever...

As several have pointed out, originally the creation of frugal housewives to fill the stomach of their family and stretch the expensive joint out over several meals…

my mother and both grandmothers would have served them as a side to the main meal and they would be fought over.

A few rules…

Served with gravy - proper stuff made from the sticky bits in the roasting tin and not something out of a packet.

Made with beef dripping (lard would be a poor second best)

Pre-made Yorkshire puds are a crime against humanity - should be a UN article regarding this

Post should have been in the northern forum rather than the lounge - no disrespect, but what interest have southerners in northern culture and cuisine - cultural appropriation!

Finally, someone will call me an pretentious twat, see a previous post - you will note they are no longer a member of the site - Yorkshire Mafia - that’s all I can say 😉

A former Yorkshire girl (economic migrant- left Yorkshire due to my job) so reasonably well qualified to comment.

As a born and raised Yorkshire man. We would have Yorkshire pudding every Sunday, first of course. Then a rotation of roast meat. Lamb, pork, beef then chicken and pork together. Chicken on its own was not considered good enough for Sunday lunch on its own. Midweek yes
