So how many are you still paying it? Do you believe in it?

Personally I've had enough of giving to the BBC like a charity, haven't had a TV license for years as I watch dvds and play games to occupy my time.

Just had a new reminder if I need a license.. "if nothing has changed you don't need to do anything" so I don't do anything and they still send out another letter a few months down the line, don't they?

Yes. It would be a shame if we lost the BBC but they need to come up with a better system maybe PPV for online catch up/live streaming services.

"I happily pay it, it's a bit like road tax, an absolute bargain."

As time goes on more younger people are turning towards newer services like netflix and prime and because of that the TV license fee is going up. It's not fair to the people that do still watch and pay it but like I said maybe PPV packages for online stuff alongside a lower priced TV license.

I would have quite liked to watch Eurovision and the Olympics but I'm not paying those prices esp seeing as I won't be watching TV again.

Gladly pay mine. For all the complaining about what is wrong with this country, the BBC is up there with the NHS as something other countries are envious of. Yes, the news is a bit shit, but the rest of their service is incredible and I'm happy to pay the fee if it helps content get created to cater towards smaller groups of people. The moment the BBC goes to subscription based, that's when marginalised groups lose their content.

I can see how this could be a divisive issue. In spite of all its shortcomings and blunders, on the whole, I think it's worth preserving, as one of the flagship British 'brands' known and recognised (and imitated or at least taken as a model) the world over; the 'factory' of many a successful series, documentary and film, and a reliable and impartial (or should be) información platform. Why its executives and so called 'stars' have to be paid such extravagant salaries is what should be looked into, probably the answer will be 'to remain attractive to potential talent'

Don’t watch much TV, but I listen to the radio and BBC sounds a lot, so I’m happy enough to pay it. And its much better value and much wider variety than any of the streaming providers in my opinion.

Happy to pay it. I don’t watch as much of their TV output that I used to but I listen to loads of their musical output so I have no qualms about paying it. If it benefits other people, then good, I will happily pay a few pounds a month to benefit us all. It’s not perfect but it’s an amazing institution, one of the things that helps bind us together in an increasingly fractured world.

The people who tell you not to pay ‘TV tax’ are the shysters who told you privatising everything would improve services, who would gladly abolish the NHS and introduce a US-style system that would financially cripple hundreds of thousands of people, who told you that Brexit would be painless and there would be no downsides. They are liars who don’t care about you. They only care about shovelling more and more money to themselves and their billionaire mates. And an independent BBC that scrutinises the government impartiality doesn’t help them do that.

License needs to be scrapped. All we get is repeats, stupid reality shows and very little comedy. TV was so much better in the 80s and that was with just 4 channels. Now we have more channels with absolute crap on.

I don't like paying it as I think it's too high. But, I do pay it because it's the law.

If they stop paying silly money to presenters, then maybe it doesn't need to be so high.

Yes, I know per day it's sort of cheap but I also pay for Netflix. However, I player has some good stuff I want to see.

So, I drudgingly pay.

£100 a year would be better

I’m pretty sure after years of broadcasting that the BBC could hold its own and move to a subscription model. They already have a streaming platform paid for the UK public.

The Beeb has had a massive advantage over the traditional broadcaster for years, but now the viewership has changed and migrated to more dedicated online streamers. It’s time the Beeb wakes up and realises the broadcast landscape has evolved. There is absolutely no reason why the UK public should be forced to pay for a licence fee.

A few comments.

A] BBC channels are constantly interrupted by advertising… of other BBC output. The idea you are somehow advertising free is ridiculous.

B] I think nearly all Forum participants are almost exclusively based in the UK and Ireland and so it is “licence” not “license”, please.

C] Over the years, the costs in time and materials of the persistent letters and emails I have received from this pigate and inept organisation asking me to re-re-re-reconfirm that I still don’t need a licence since last month (… literally, at some periods) would have paid for several complete licences. They are shysters.

No, because the moment it goes to a subscription model is the moment good shows with smaller audiences get cancelled because the BBC has to try and win over audiences for subscriptions rather than follow the current remit of educating, enforming and entertaining.

BBC4 music docs and those that cater to smaller groups in the UK would be gone in an instant as money would be diverted to try and win subs.

You can already see how shit this is with the likes of Netflix. There have been some amazing TV shows on there that have been cancelled pretty much after two days because they didn't get the audience figures.

I've never had a TV Licence, or a driving license, a fishing license or a dog license, because in the UK we have LicenCes.

I've seen people walk away from traffic offences in court when the charges have been spelled using the american version of license and not licence.

Rawcliffe Bridge.

I stopped paying it years before pandemic, as the BBC, even back then, did not accurately report on a great many things, and the few they did a "detailed" report on, was skewed, and I still refuse to pay what I now call

"The TV Tax", and get threatening letters from them often, but only addressed to the "occupier".

These are filed, and saved, for when the "investigator" turns up to "investigate", as it often says in their so called "letters".

In the UK, "licence" (with a c) is the noun for a permit or document as in TV licence and driving licence.

"License" (with an s) is the verb meaning to give permission, or at least it was the case in my schooldays long ago, when TV was actually worth watching! 😅

Yeah I pay it, think some of the services it provides are crucial. Yeah the news may be a little shut, but some of the TV shows have been great, incredible radio broadcasts and the marvel that is the world service are the envy of some of places.
