Hayes, Middx

This is now utterly surreal.

A parade of bisexual profiles (who are not gay) telling us names of celebrity females who give them the horn under the pretence it would “stop them being gay” (which they’re not).

The Humpty Dumpty Forum.

——

“…. ‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.’ …”

Clearly the OP is not trying to make people straight, someone has to be pretty out of touch to think this is some effort to get rid of gays. And what's more, it's not at all offensive, and, even if it was, so what?! It's okay to be offended, it doesn't entitle anyone to reparations.

My bad, I don't love men enough to understand. You're right that some replies say the same, but they're the responses, not the original question, which is not offensive. It's almost like some people (and I'm not suggesting just gay people) are sniffing around for things to offend themselves with.

Tongue in cheek I think

No female celebrities could turn me straight I'm gay.

I think a threesome with Kathy Burke and Jo Brand might turn a straight man gay

I've read all the replies and there is only one which directly calls the original proposition 'stupid', no reply says anything about it being offensive. Lots of replies say nothing would turn them straight, which stands to reason, but again, no one seems to be offended. So, again, can you explain how the OPs question is offensive please?

"Interestingly, the OPs question didn't mention anyone turning straight."

The thread title (created by the OP) says “ Female celebrities that would stop you being gay”. If you are gay, no woman is going to stop you being gay and turn you bi or straight. Would seem that a lot of Bi people don’t understand this, and why all the woman/gf talk seems to be driving Gay men off the site. If you’re on this site you are looking for sex with men, so why do your utmost to drive many of those who might pleasure you away. And the excuse that well if the site lets me post it I will doesn’t wash. If the automated enforcement was that strict we wouldn’t be able to post most things. People need to exercise better judgment and control in line with the spirit of what the site is for man on man hookup.

It is not a case of “Bi erasure” it is a question of the appropriateness of subjects discussing sex with women on a man on man hookup site. I could equally argue that all the “Sex with women” threads that are being posted by some (not all) Bi’s and those “claiming” to be straight (deluding themselves, if they like cock then they are Bi but can’t admit it to themselves) appears to Gay men as “Gay Erasure” which I believe has driven quite a few Gay men off the site as there seems to be a lot less on here now than there was a couple of years ago (just my observation).

People need to ask themselves is what they are posting appropriate to the purpose of this site (to find men to hookup with) and if it is discussing sex with women then it is not.

Clearly, the phenomena of sexuality is far more complex than the question of this thread would seem to imply, I think that the original question would have been more appropriately worded as:- "Female celebrities that would distract from your interest in men."

Assuming: not gay = straight is bi erasure.

I'm not gay and have never been straight. I've always only ever been (and identified as) Bisexual. I was merely pointing out that 'not gay' doesn't necessarily mean someone is straight. Your rant against what others have posted is misplaced in a response to what I've contributed to this thread.

Assuming: not gay = straight is bi erasure.

I'm not gay and have never been straight. I've always only ever been (and identified as) Bisexual. I was merely pointing out that 'not gay' doesn't necessarily mean someone is straight. Your rant against what others have posted is misplaced in a response to what I've contributed to this thread."

Nobody i can see has assumed that not gay = straight, so there is no bi erasure happening here. The original post specifically asked what female would stop someone being gay. As you're not gay, the question doesn't really apply to bi or straight men. Gay men have clearly stated that no woman would stop them being gay, due to thier intrinsic gayness. They're not bi so theyre not sexually motivated by women in the same way you might be. They've just pointed out that if a man can be swayed that way, then they are not gay, and are actually bi. Its the opposite of erasure - it's shining a light on bi. The original post is clumsy, but not offensive to anyone IMO.

"Interestingly, the OPs question didn't mention anyone turning straight.

Comments above eg "There isn't a female, celebrity or otherwise that could turn me straight." suggests that some think not being gay means straight.

The important word there is "me". Its not suggesting anything about anyone. Its a statement of fact about the person posting it, who is more than likely gay. Due to its wording the original question is aimed at gay people.

Actually the OP is clearly shown as TV/TS, and if you check their profile they are listed as Bi, so they clearly don’t identify as gay.

To me the whole question “stop you being gay” Sounds like they think that “conversion therapy” works and you can stop being gay - which I find very offensive.

It doesn't matter how the OP identifies, the only thing that matters is the words they used. You're making leaps and seeing things that arent there - including your opinion that the pic of them in women's gear must mean they are a TV/TS. Their question was to gay men. It was clumsily worded, and perhaps they dont know the spectrum of sexuality, or confuses/conflates sexual acts with sexuality. It doesn't matter if they're TV, gay, straight, alien, or woman, the question remains the same. The OP didn't make the statement you mention above - that was made by a hidden profile whose picture is of a man. We have no idea what thier sexual orientation is, but its fair to assume that as they said "none" to a question about women turning gay men, that they are indeed gay. Nothing they, or the OP has suggested anyone believes in conversation therapy - goodness knows how you've made that leap.

1. The question is aimed at gay men by virtue of the way it is worded. Words matter.

2. If you're not a gay man, the question doesn't apply to you, so what you are is irrelevant to the question, or answer.

3. Answering the question as posed without acknowledging bi people does not suggest anyone is ignoring bi - it's simply that the question is not about bi people.

This site is wall to wall of people who don't really know what they are and may be battling with conflicted thoughts and feelings about yhier identity so it's not surprising confusion plays out here. But the crux is words matter and leaps dont. Words are definitive by nature. Its leaps that cause offense because theyre subjective.

Like the other guy said, you're the one that's made the leap to conversion therapy and got yourself all offended by it. Nothing about the original question is offensive. And, even if he does think conversation therapy works (which I'm pretty sure nobody does), how does that offend you, and even if it does offend you, so what?

The proof of the pudding being in the eating .... You just don't know until you try.

Plenty of lesbian and gay men end up in both committed & casual heterosexual relationships.

Plenty of straight men and women end up having gay/lesbian relationships of one kind or another.

Going through different sexual phases is really very commonplace throughout a lifetime of sexual activity, too.

Either possible scenario shouldn't be in the least bit offensive to anyone, regardless of their sexual identity.

We're an extremely sexually fluid species .... especially when it comes to purely recreational sex.

To an extent I agree with you. We often experiment outside our comfort zone/true nature. Especially when young and curios. Alcohol or circumstances play a factor in this. I know that the first time I had sex with a woman I had consumed several drinks and allowed myself to be seduced. These days---well for a good many years now---the thought of having sex with a woman absolutely horrifies me.

Little bit of a fun thread and people start arguing and taking it too seriously. Here's an idea if you don't like it don't read it. Do you watch programmes on the TV you don't like just so you can complain about them? Or turn over and watch something you like?

It seems so many people nowadays just want to be permanently upset and unhappy.

Have a laugh for fuck sake and try to enjoy yourselves l.

Maybe the OP should've said "make you give up being bisexual" rather than gay because the OP and people responding with female examples are not even gay.

He might have been referring to homosexual men who had never had any sexual contact with a female ... But who just happen to have a strong sexual crush on some female celebrity or other?

I suppose they might be classified as gay men who are also 'Straight-Curious'?

Being gay or bisexual is not a choice, you can try fool yourself but the urge for same sex play will just keep coming back..

that’s why you see so many “straight” married men delete profiles when the guilt takes hold and then makes a new one shortly after
