Facial recognition, are you for or against it?

Personally, I am not sure as it reminds me of criminals being branded, to punish them and shame them to the pulic at the same time.

A.I. when will an app be created showing people how to alter enough of thier facial features to make biometrics unacceptable as evidence.

As Facial recognition is not fulproof plus A.I. it seems only a matter of time befor eall videos used currently used in evidence are deemed unexceptable.

I have nothing to hide, so I’m not against facial recognition per se, but AI is improving rapidly and it is becoming harder to detect whether or not a video has been modified or made by AI.

There is now no single method of detection so a multi faceted approach is necessary. Hiring a specialist checker would be expensive.

If you believed that an incriminating video was fake and that video was used against you, the onus would probably be on you to prove it was fake.

I do think there are genuine concerns, especially since just about anyone can make a very convincing video these days.

Speeding has been the only crime I have done, so like millions i have nothing to fear.

But I do fear big brother. one by one civil liberties are being taken away from us.

Bans are now on the Internet, free speech is in danger, justice is about to be limited with the removal of juries, people are arrested for holding placards.

What do you need to hapen before you relise freedom is under threat.

We have to stand up to big brother.

Facial recognition is used by law enforcement to catch criminals. That's a good thing.

I guess for that argument you'd have to prove that AI was used on every bit of video surveillance that the accused was captured on

Whenever you see videos of Street criminals, most of the people shown are masked up.

F.R fail right there

Cost? A few quid for a mask.

You are absolutely correct.

However, we won't stand up ... People will just suck it up as usual, and within a few years it will be accepted as being perfectly normal.

Also to harass people peacefully demonstrating, or those who just turned up to see what was going on.

Monitored outside .... Monitored online.

Every non-cash transaction recorded and logged. ID Cards/App on the way.

We are becoming an Authoritarian State.

"people are arrested for holding placards."

Well that is very much going to depend on what is written on the placards. There are a number of things that would break various laws - and I’m not going to even try and give examples as they would either be blocked by the prohibited words list or removed by the mods.

If you are referring to the ones about palistinian action, well they only have themselves to blame. If some of their members had not damaged those military transport planes they probably wouldn’t have been proscribed.

The reason they were proscribed is because the action of damaging the military transport planes was not covered by existing laws that people would think would cover it.

Treason - that only covers trying to do away with the head of state or overthrow the government.

Sabotage/Espionage - they only cover acts committed for foreign agents or those in the pay of a foreign government.

About all they could be charged with is criminal damage which in no way reflects the severity of the damage they caused (what if the transport was needed to evacuate people).

By proscribing PA that means that they are classed as terrorists so any further actions like that can be treated and charged under anti-terror laws. However, it does mean that anyone supporting PA is then complicit.

As I said they only have themselves to blame for being proscribed due to the actions of some of their members.
