The six contenders are:

Hannah Hampton (Football)

Chloe Kelly (Football)

Ellie Kildunne (Rugby Union)

Luke Littler (Darts)

Rory McIlroy (Golf)

Lando Norris (Formula 1)

Who would you like to see win? Personally I'd like to see Rory take the crown, he's had a fantastic 12 months and faced a lot of shit from USA fans in the Ryder Cup. The other 5 are younger, with much shorter careers and plenty more chances to win in the future.

All about as valid as the european song contest... the BBC don't show sport anymore; that ship sailed years ago! Top flight footy, F1, cricket, boxing... all gone! Won't be long before snooker goes commercial too! The only sport the BBC shows is lawn bowls and womens football where there is no interest or money involved! A TV broadcaster hosting a sports personality of the year award show when the don't show the sports is delusional!

Ellie Kildunne had an amazing world cup and hopefully should be up there.

I say this as a darts player - don't give it to Luke. Amazing as he is it'll be a joke if darts starts winning this.

Hope Lando wins tbh, almost had a nervous breakdown mid-season, has done well to win it from there. Yeah, I hear all the haters saying how much money he gets blah blah, but isn't ALL top flight sport over payed nowadays!!

Good point. Although I said Luke and Lando earlier--mainly because they seem nice guys and don't know much about the others--theirs are arguably sports. Yes they require skills but hardly exercises where you build up a sweat from your exertions

F1 is incredibly punishing, physically.

Jenson Button used to do Triathlons as part of his physical training.

"For me Ellie Kilddune, for once someone who lived upto the hype "

She definitely did, however I still think Rory should get it due to the length of time he's been at the top of world golf.

He's a five-time major champion, and the sixth man to achieve a modern career grand slam, the first European to achieve the feat.

Golf? Formula 1?? DARTS???

What The Fuck? Why is strolling round a green hitting balls into holes a "sport"? Hells bells, even lardass TRUMP does it - and wins*.

Formula 1, where so much depends upon the technical design of the cars. And DARTS? Standing there throwing a metal spike at the board?

Oh, what the hell. If nobody cares about language anymore, maybe we can look forward to the chess entry: chess is a sport, right? Or a video game category - just as demanding of reflexes as driving a racing car. And if pub games are allowed, how about shove-hapenny? The possibilities are endless.

* never a good idea to beat someone who owns the golf course. Or who has a multi-million govt contract for you in his pocket.

Very poor crop this year I think - not a standout year for British Sport. Motor Sport more about the Car than the Driver. Darts - entertaining certainly, and succesful participants do need great hand to eye coordination, but a spectacle more than a Sport. Womens Rugby & Soccer squads did well … against limited opposition. Only Rory with true success in a significant world event…..even then a limited field ….Masters is to a certain extent self selecting, it’s not The Open. Been far better years. Personally I think Scott Mctominay should have been in there for reinventing himself as a footballer in a genuine competitive competition- Italian Football - and almost single handedly dragging Scotland into the World Cup Finals. Also Harry Kane who’s goal scoring record for Bayern & England this past 12 months is phenomenal. Although Harry ain’t Mr Personality is he ?

Definately a good shout for McTominay- as long as he agrees to pick up the award wearing his Napoli kit…..

The SPOTY is an irrelevant hour or so which should be confined to the by gone era it was conceived in.

A once enjoyable event it's now laughable and so woke and biased lol.

"Hannah Hampton getting plenty of free publicity on the unbiased BBC today. Rory or Lando would be my choice"

It's a report about the lifelong problems with her eyesight, the operations she had to endure as a child, and the difficulties she still has judging distance and depth.

A story of hope and inspiration, it's shameful how some people still manage to make such negative observations.

I can just imagine the uproar if the BBC paid millions to get TV rights for premiership football. It not the BBCs fault that all the majority of sporting events want the billions £ deals
