Papers whipping up a headline, if Russia seriously wanted the Ukraine im sure they would have it by now,

Its more about Russia pushing to test Natos reactions

The only way out is for Russia to stop without losing face, and though im no fan of Trump, only the US can facilitate a truce.

A solution which panders to all the egos involved, ie Putin, Trump and to a lesser extent Zelensky.

"So we have been advised to prepare to fight for our country "

The advice is more about being aware of the global situation and the steps required to ensure national security, rather than a direct call to action for citizens to prepare to fight!

The focus is on modernising defence and enhancing cybersecurity, as well as strengthening alliances like NATO.

Controversial viewpoint, between 1945 and 1949, only the USA had nuclear weapons and long range bombers, Harry Truman should've used them to wipe out the Evil Empire once an for all!

A few megaton strikes on Moscow, Leningrad and a few other strategic cities would have saved the World a lot of trouble down the line.

Sounds idiotic but when you consider that most countries are led by feckin lunatics and cowards with no morals who will never have to fight and that greed and power is their mantra and real àim : then starting a war doesn't seem like a far fetched idea.

They have learned nothing from history because they are feckin stupid men and women with IQs at ground level 🥱🥱🥱.

Nothing these fuckwits d would shock me and the USA, Israel, Russia and UK are all led by the type of Neanderthal who thinks they can get away with it.

No, they would go to war against the UK. Even if Scotland had, by some misfortune, gained independence you seriously believe our hypothetical adversary would draw the line at attacking Scotland with all its strategic importance.

Glaikit indeed

A democratic decision would not be the stuff of misfortune. More glaikitness.

If it's hypothetical, the consideration is indeed about dying for one's country and not a mythical farce.

"So we have been advised to prepare to fight for our country

Who told us that ? "

Retired Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon was ranting about it in the Torygraph, formerly known as the Daily Boris after one of its ex columnists, and hence an impeccably truthful and accurate source of news.

"Getting Britain ready for war is the only hope of peace, and it’s a job for us all. "

"Extremists of the Left and Right say they won’t help. They are free-riders, enjoying the safety provided to them by other, better Britons".

Thus spake Col Bretton-Gordon (Retd.) Makes you feel so much safer, knowing that when the call comes he'll respond and he'll be directing strategy from the comfort of his armchair, doesn't it?

That.

"If you desire peace, prepare for war" is a pretty sound adage, and this country has become disgracefully reliant on other countries' goodwill (including America's). Also, although our capability for an immediate and distant response is perhaps adequate, we have no realistic defence against sustained attack by an enemy which regards infantry as wholly expendable. Which might just be fine still if we weren't tied into a mutual defence pact with the countries Russia covets.

Time to duck and cover. The shit (Trump and Putin) has already hit the fan.

Lemme see.... Putin isn't actually shooting anyone, least of all in breach of binding agreements, and will declare peace tomorrow if we'll only be nice to him? Lavrov doesn't make wild threats to European countries on a more or less daily basis? And if he does, he's only joking?

Those Ukranians you were talking to wouldn't have been the Russian-speaking contingent in Donetsk, who "did'nt" invite the Russians to have a go at redrawing the boundary, would they? Or the good citizens imported into Crimea to replace the Tatars?

The Russians where supplying Nazi Germany with arms right up to the start of Barbarossa.

They'd already made a secret deal to carve up Poland with the Germans.

They viewed Britain with nothing but untrust as idealogically we where completely polarised.

You'd do well to look up Churchills military plans after the axis had capitulated. ( I think it was called operation unthinkable).
