I’ll be surrounded by people I love and love me back. We will all muck in the help with the dinner. Itll be about 12 of us around the table. Then a walk and back to watch a couple of films.

We sometimes play a game when we mute the sound on Eastenders put on the subtitles and each play a character reading the lines. Usually in very posh voices. It’s sort of funny after a few drinks. But it’s about being with old friends who treat me like family. We will raise a glass to my late husband and others who are no longer at the table.

The friend who came last year and slipped on the stairs Christmas day morning is coming. She is not allowed anywhere near the stairs. We had to call an ambulance she broke her ankle. So if we all survive unscathed. Off to the pub at 12. Dinner at some point in the afternoon. A few drinks in front of an open fire with a few more friends in the evening.

My family take turns to rotate hosting duties, so as there’s 4 of us, I host every 4th Christmas. Thankfully I hosted last year so I’m looking forward to going to my brothers and watching someone else have the stress of cooking for 16 people!

Seriously though we all help where we can but it’s stressful for the host.

On Boxing Day it’s a long dog walk followed by a pub visit with my cousin and her family.

Then I will take a day or two to recover from all that rich food before doing it all again on New Years Eve and New Years Day.

I wouldn't worry about hijacking Christmas, seeing how it was Christians who hijacked older pagan Yule traditions, which predate Christianity by centuries.

Different for me this year,I lost the love of my life in june and still hurts badly. We always had friends at Christmas and I felt I needed to keep the tradition so to speak. I am really not looking forward to it but hopefully getting through it will help the healing process. Best wishes to you all. Xx

"Quietly at home" as we have no family left now. Neighbours invited us to lunch on 25th, but it felt like imposing, especially with her mother there. We've ordered a load of our own food anyway. So we're going round on Boxing Day.

Much the same set background as me this year (although July for me). I will be by myself which I don't really mind though.

I think I will go out for a run for a few hours as the roads should be pretty dead, so I can get up Leith and box hill in one piece. That should end up at least knocking me out with tiredness for the rest of the day.
