I’ll be surrounded by people I love and love me back. We will all muck in the help with the dinner. Itll be about 12 of us around the table. Then a walk and back to watch a couple of films.

We sometimes play a game when we mute the sound on Eastenders put on the subtitles and each play a character reading the lines. Usually in very posh voices. It’s sort of funny after a few drinks. But it’s about being with old friends who treat me like family. We will raise a glass to my late husband and others who are no longer at the table.

The friend who came last year and slipped on the stairs Christmas day morning is coming. She is not allowed anywhere near the stairs. We had to call an ambulance she broke her ankle. So if we all survive unscathed. Off to the pub at 12. Dinner at some point in the afternoon. A few drinks in front of an open fire with a few more friends in the evening.

My family take turns to rotate hosting duties, so as there’s 4 of us, I host every 4th Christmas. Thankfully I hosted last year so I’m looking forward to going to my brothers and watching someone else have the stress of cooking for 16 people!

Seriously though we all help where we can but it’s stressful for the host.

On Boxing Day it’s a long dog walk followed by a pub visit with my cousin and her family.

Then I will take a day or two to recover from all that rich food before doing it all again on New Years Eve and New Years Day.

I wouldn't worry about hijacking Christmas, seeing how it was Christians who hijacked older pagan Yule traditions, which predate Christianity by centuries.

Much the same set background as me this year (although July for me). I will be by myself which I don't really mind though.

I think I will go out for a run for a few hours as the roads should be pretty dead, so I can get up Leith and box hill in one piece. That should end up at least knocking me out with tiredness for the rest of the day.

"I'll be on the beach in Lanzarote "

i spent Xmas & New Year in Lanzarote a few years ago. Very pleasant weather during the day - i got sunburnt - although the evenings did get chilly very quickly, & hotel i was in hadn't any heating.

Great thing about it was that it was all very low-key - i recall there was a procession somewhere organised by local church, but on the whole it was quiet, with no fuss and easy to ignore.

Just the two of us here. Nice meal in front of the telly. We dont really do Christmas, no tree, cards or presents.

Family other side of the country who we saw a few weeks ago to celebrate my sisters 60th birthday. It's her birthday on boxing day, but trying to arrange a party so close to Christmas was a nightmare.

Parents live about 45 mins drive away, it was my dads birthday on the 16th so we saw them a few days ago. Its also their anniversary on the 30th so going out for a meal them to celebrate then.

It was our anniversary yesterday.

But as for Christmas day, just feels like any other day.

So far I've spent more time filing my nails than anything else. Got a Czech glass file as a stocking filler and it's addictive and a gamechanger, buffs them off so crazy smooth it's unreal.

Lest anybody think this effeminate, I'm not; I just really like quality grooming tools and this makes my guitar-playing nails perfect! They're kind of prone to splitting and snagging, or should I say, were.
