Well the title is queen consort.

Basically Queen is a lower rank than King, so if the monarch is a king then his wife becomes queen consort. However if the monarch is a Queen, their husband cannot have a title that is a higher rank, that is why the late Prince Philip was still a Prince not a King, the same applied to Prince Albert with Queen Victoria.

Such nastiness again HM Queen Camilla and why? She's doing a splendid job of supporting her husband. Having met her in the past I thought she was a very nice down-to-earth lady with a brilliant sense of humour.

Work/Play in London, live in Kent

Almost _awih

In English tradition a woman takes her precedence from her father until she is married and her husband afterwards (or possibly her husband’s father). Men take their precedence from their own position or from their father.

So a wife is her husband subordinate and he cannot be hers.

Therefore a king’s wife takes his precedence and the female equivalent of his title. There is a way of differentiating title holders vs those with titles of curtesy - A regnant rules and a consort is their spouse. King Charles is King Regnant, his mother was Queen Regnant, his wife is Queen Consort.

In the same way a Duke’s wife is a Duchess, a Prince’s wife is a Princess. The husband of a Princess is a Mr.

HRH The Princess Royal is married to Sir Tim. Officially in her first marriage she was HRH Mrs Mark Phillips. Princess Alexandra’s husband was The Hon Angus Ogilvy and she was HRH The Hon Mrs Angus Ogilvy legally. And that style derived from Angus’s father.

This system was different in other kingdoms. In Scotland the husband of a queen was King - Lord Darnley was King of Scotland when he married Mary which you continued to be until he was accidentally blown up in a explosion in a house which she had absolutely totally nothing to do with organising. When Queen Mary remarried her new husband (who totally never lit the fuse!) the new fella became James King of Scotland. Regnants were of Scots. Consorts were of Scotland. The King of the Belgians is married to the Queen of Belgium in similar fashion even to this day.

Husbands took their wife’s title in England up until the War of the Roses; Warwick the kingmaker was really Lord Salisbury (a title which he inherited from his mother but was also used by his commoner father) but he married Lady Warwick and used her title during the 11 years before he inherited his own (and both thereafter).

In Portugal they had a novel system. The husband of the Queen was Prince Consort up until he fathered an heir. Once he had done so, he proved eligible and that was when he was upgraded to King Consort.

Of course this is all non-sense. It is in fact worth noting the the wife of a president is called Mrs and the husband of a president is called Mr.

I don’t understand the general dislike of QUEEN Camilla on here, I suspect that most of it stems from the fact that she’s not Diana.

So Diana wasn’t Charles’ soul mate, but Camilla clearly is. Good luck to her; Camilla and also Katherine have been a breathe of fresh air for the Monarchy.

"Why is she called queen?

Unless you set up your own country of you and your acolytes (like the mad Ghanaian calling himself King Atehene and creating the “Kingdom of Kubala" in the Scottish woods before finally being evicted…) and create it all from scratch, then you are going to have to live with the basic rules of commonality.

Charles III is your king, like it not. Camilla is the Queen Consort, like her or not - irrespective of your views on the Monarchy. Sir Kier Starmer is your PM, like him or not, whether you voted for his party or not - irrespective of your political views. The Post Office is run as a limited company via the UK government and overseen by the Dpt. for Business and Trade… whether you think that is a good thing or not. Sir Nick Clegg and Dame Floella Benjamin were awarded honours whether you agreed with that or not. Your friend may have a nicer car or house than you, whether you like it or not and consider them less deserving.

Grown ups live in the world as it is. And some campaign and strive to change it to how they want it to be.

What are you doing exactly? Apart from ranting on a FabGuys forum thread…

No. Camilla is definitely Queen Consort in the same way that the late Queen Mother was Queen Consort to King George VI during his reign. It was mooted at one point that Camilla would be Princess Consort when Charles became Queen. However this was changed because it would have set a precedent whereby Catherine may not have become Queen when it is William's time. Camilla was crowned on the same day as Charles in the same way previous Queen Consorts have been crowned.

Charles was with Camilla before he was with Diana but he was strongarmed into marrying the frankly vile Diana. I don't like any of them but at least tell the truth around it.

Charlie appears to be happy with someone his own age, who isn't pushy and mostly agrees with his views, and i'd rather people with power stay in a good mood, so long live Camilla. Pity the succession contains Spencer genes, too. Bad for the form book.

Dislike the pair of them immensely, they were not fit to be anointed as Monarch and Consort. You would be hard pushed to find two more self obsessed , selfish people.

We have has six queen regnant of this country excluding the arguable 'reigns' of Matilda and Jane Grey. Mary I was married to Philip of Spain and he did take the titular title of King of England which he had to relinquish when she died. Elizabeth I never married. Mary II was joint sovereign with her husband/cousin William III. Queen Anne's husband, Prince George of Denmark, took the title Duke of Cumberland. Queen Victoria officially made Prince Albert, Prince Consort. Queen Elizabeth II made Prince Philip a Prince of the United Kingdom and her father had already made him Duke of Edinburgh. It avoids confusion as technically a king takes precedent to a queen.

As for calling HM Queen Camilla 'horse face' shame on you sir. She's not a bad looking lady and has the most glorious smile.
