There's no real difference, it's a fallacy. They do tend to be a little scruffier though, especially in Yorkshire.

Enjoyed my visits and holidays up north. Thought about moving up there but probably left it a bit late in life. An ex FWB/Boyfriend was from Co.Durham and he was the salt-of-the-earth type.

Although to hear me talk you'd think born and bred Estuary English, I actually spent my childhood in Jarrow so qualify as both Geordie and Kentish (and have lived all over inc Ireland, Wales, Bristol, Hereford and now Solihull)

I was definitely hard when I was a kid, no central heating and just electric bar fires and lotsa blankets. Got a bit soft down south but now I work in a proper job with physical component in the Midlands so I'm hard again

Totally agree. When there was a lot of talk about women getting equality with men, my mom and aunties would always say that they would never let the men get equal with them.

And we aren’t properly northern!!

King's Lynn, Norfolk

Levelling up, means northern roads are truly dreamy like to drive on, so smooth and safe. Whilst we soppy southerners have to endure roads that a third world country would be ashamed of.

Better public services all round up north. The reason being, those that kick up a stink and shout the loudest are given what the want in the hope they will shut up, they never do!

In my experience folk are pretty friendly wherever you go, and I have covered the vast majority of this Island. However as a rule of thumb, if you head South East, people seem to be less friendly and more miserable than those you meet if you head South West. Up North, pretty cool folk really.

Isn't there some old law in Berwick on T that's says you can kill a Scotsman with an arrow, but only if it's fired from the city walls. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But having said this, why would you want to kill a Scotsman, they're really nice... especially the ginger ones

It was a panic law in 1403 because of attacks by Owain Glyndwr's rebellion.

It was beheading, not arrows.

If you're bothered about people who, in your mind don't speak English, which seems to upset a few of you, maybe steer clear of places like Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Bolton, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Rochdale and Rotherham etc. For the geographically challenged, none of these places are in London or the South East.

Because if you had you would know we make every one feel welcome whatever football top you might be wearing (as you have brought football into it)

Of course if like some of the southern football fans who are renowned for causing trouble you come looking for it then believe you me you will rightly get it 😁

"Are northerners more friendly?

Definitely 👍

Go to London pass someone on the street and say hello they look at you like you’ve just one down from space

The most unfriendly city in the UK you can say that about any city in the world. So if I walked into a boozer in the NE wearing claret and blue and said hello with my accent would it go down well ?

Aye you would be made to feel more than welcome

You obviously haven’t been up north before haven’t I, what makes you say that then ?

Because if you had you would know we make every one feel welcome whatever football top you might be wearing (as you have brought football into it)

Of course if like some of the southern football fans who are renowned for causing trouble you come looking for it then believe you me you will rightly get it 😁

Arsenal fans this season at the SOL spring to mind "

I find people are people, good or bad everywhere. I'm direct or blunt as I'm often told.

I had a manager from oooop North, blunt talking but who terrified my students.

She told me "We call a spade a spade in Yorkshire."

I replied "That's what we call it down here too."

But both being people who hated BS, we got on great.

Nah, they moved to live off the vast capital of thier south east property sale. When you're out of earshot, they'll be telling each other how shit Lincs is. I know because I have family who did precisely this. I visit them often, it's got nice bits and shitty bits same as anywhere. Isn't Lincs in the Midlands though? I travel a lot, and other than the people who say such and such is better, there is no noticeable difference whatsoever. There are cunts north and south, and there are friendly people north and south. People will argue about it for ever though.

There's one thing I'll concede about the North, or at least the North-West, is that their pies are better.

I'm referring to Meat & Potato pies of course, we have all the other ones in London. As far as I'm concerned the pie belt stretches from North Staffs to Lancashire, basically west of The Pennines.

I'm sure that's true, but it also raises something of a paradox.

I live in London and don't consume alcohol at all, I'm completely tee-total. I'm not ashamed of this and will quite openly admit it, knowing that my manhood won't be questioned and that, thankfully, people aren't judged on their alcohol consumption in my part of the world.

Same here. Totally teetotal despite years of being licenced to sell the stuff and belonging to two of the heaviest drinking organisations--the army and rugby clubs--before that. Self-confessed lightweight where drinking was concerned before giving up completely. Don't think anyone judged me for it.

"A northerner walked into my pub and asked for a pint of bitter complaining that southern bitter was like drinking gnats piss. After four pints of Abbot Ale he literally fell off his barstool. He had to helped out of the pub. Not sure they can drink up there

It’s a well known fact about two of Londons so called hardest men ie the Kray twins walking into a pub in Newcastle demanding protection money and getting told very politely to do one otherwise someone would get hurt…..

They fucked off very sharpest never to return again 🤣

Typical loud mouth Cockneys under estimating the Northerners

The loud ones are always the weakest…….

Go to the East End and say that. No need to buy a return train ticket, you won't need it 😆

I know i wouldn’t as I’d be driving back

Have you seen Danny Dyer

Enough Said "

You can't drive into the East End and expect to drive out again. Wheels are worth a shiny penny down the pub. It'll be an Uber in Margate within 24 hours.

You'll have to explain your use of Essex and brains in the same sentence because I can't get me head round it

Used to live Druridge Bay in the 1960s. Hardly any people about and me and me cousins used to spend all day playing in the marram grass dunes (just innocent hide and seek stuff, not what you dirty bastards are thinking; we were only about 10 )

Great place to go mate it’s a great beach 👌

That’s one thing that is certain the South isn’t even in the same league when it comes to Beaches and stunning rural scenery the best tutu get is a sand pit in the back garden

When visiting the Cumbrian beaches don’t neglect a bit of naked sunbathing in the dunes at Drigg.

Ross Sands in North Northumberland is also a great place to nude sunbathe and swim naked in the Sea 🙂

"There was a northerner who was telling me how tough northern Rugby League players were and how the Rugby Union players down south were pansies. He came for a trial at my Rugby Union club and squealed like a pig at the first scrum and was carried off after ten minutes literally crying because he said Union was so much harder than he thought.
