Ok a question for you lot .. and it is this,

Which song is so powerful with the lyrics that it can make you cry? Just buy the lyrics you hear or that your soul feel?

One of mine is woman in chains..

Into Dust by Mazzy Star. It’s the most powerful softly spoken song that still gives my butterflies to this day from when I first listened to it. It was released at a time when I was getting over my first love.

The St0len Child, Waterboys.

The Yeats words and lilting music, Mike's singing and Tomás Mac Eoin's spoken word sean-nos, all of it evokes an older world where death and life and love lived cheek by jowl.

"With the fairy, hand in hand

From a world more full of weeping than you can understand"

Even though it's a song I'm hugely familiar with and have listened to hundreds of times, I still have to limit my exposure to it because IT FUCKING BREAKS ME, every single time.

And if that's not what music is for, then fuck anyone who thinks otherwise. Sometimes we need to be broken by the raw emotion and callback to somewhere we once knew existed, maybe as kids ourselves.

And Lana Del Rey is still getting rich off of Hope's vibe.

Fade Into You is also brilliant.

Cloudbusting.

How in the hell Kate Bush made a magnificent single hit from a song about the gay son of a persecuted weird scientist still beats me, but she did and that's why she remains a goddess.

You should have been an angel

It would of suited you

My gold-leafed, triptych angel

She knows just what to do

In the half light of morning

In our world between the sheets

I swear I saw her angel wing

My vision was complete…

Just gets better and better and then

Are we etched in stone or just scratched in the sand waiting for the waves to reclaim the land

Tightrope - the Stone Roses

I believe it’s known as sad core these days lol. Yes fade into you is also pretty cool. I had a huge mural of Hope in my studio for years on one side and Jim Morrison’s young lion portrait on the other. I’ve now done a sultry looking Betty Paige lol. But ultimately Mazzy Star were on phenomenal in my world but then.

Only just read about this...

It's called a Frisson:

Frisson, or aesthetic chills, is a sudden, transient, and often pleasurable psychophysiological response to intense stimuli like music, art, or emotional moments. It commonly manifests as tingling skin, shivers down the spine, or goosebumps (piloerection). Often triggered by intense musical crescendos or breathtaking art, it reflects a surge of emotion or anticipation...

The song drugs don’t work was originally written by Richard Ashcroft about something personal that happened in his life it wasn’t about narcotics it is about the drugs not working as in medication I’m not sure if it’s about his sister or something else but the poignant sentence that gets me is

Now the drugs don’t work but I know ill see your face again

Rush, Closer to the Heart:

"And the men who hold high places

Must be the ones who start

To mold a new reality

Reflect it in their art

They forge their creativity

Philosophers and ploughmen

Each must know his part

To sow a new mentality

1. "Once upon a time, there was light in my life, no there's only love in the dark, nothing I can do a total eclipse of the heart"

2. "Run neon tiger, there's a lot on your mind

They'll strategize and maim you, but don't you let them tame you

You're far too pure and bold

To suffer the strain of the hand and its hold

I don't wanna be kept, I don't wanna be caged, I don't wanna be damned, oh hell

I don't wanna be broke, I don't wanna be saved, I don't wanna be S.O.L.

Give me rolling hills and tonight can be the night that I stand among them the thousand thrills

Mister, cut me some slack, 'cause I don't wanna go back, I want a new day and age"

3. "Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?

Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?

Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?

Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?"
