Where are you and how’s the fuel situation

Starting to find it hard to obtain fuel in this area (Central belt) and I do wonder if it’s an induced issue to make us all desperate and thus willing to pay whatever price they pluck out of thin air.

Gloucestershire. Filled up the boat tanks when the prices started to rise, so domestically we're good for about three months.

Bike does 85mpg so although a tankfull has gone from £12 to about £16 I'm not too bothered yet.

It’s not too bad in wolves. The odd station has run out occasionally, but it’s soon back up and running.

The cost, like everywhere else, has risen ridiculously.

I’m an EV driver so I don’t have to buy petrol or diesel but driving around Nottingham, although fossil fuel prices are relatively high, I don’t see any panic buying or shortages.

I did drive up north on Saturday and on the M1, the signs were saying that one of the service stations had no fuel. All the rest seemed to be ok though.

And no, it hasn’t been induced to make everyone desperate. Trump has increased the cost of living for most of the world. And because he isn’t capable of admitting he’s wrong, I think that fuel shortages and panic buying are imminent.

My work arrangements changed after COVID. Work from home most of the time. The times I need to travel I have caught the train into Manchester.

I think we will see a rise in home working again, for those who can do it. It's the greenest option.

Derby

Farmer here near Derby. Not had any issue getting derv for car or farm truck, supermarket seems to be slightly cheaper than the fuel card.

But my main concern is the price and availability of the diesel for the tractors. It’s doubled in price since before the conflict, just as we are approaching our extremely busy period. We can easily use 500 litres a day, some farmers will use considerably more, if we can’t get fuel we are fucked. As for the price of it, we suddenly find ourselves having to pay extortionate amounts over what has been budgeted.

This crisis will impact on everybody’s lives if it carries on. Almost every item in our lives relies on fuel at some point, particularly in transport logistics.

Doncaster area, no problems here.

I drive to work in leeds 5 days a week, its not far off 2 quid a litre for posh diesel.

I filled up Saturday at local garage, cost me 53 notes, but that will see me right for 3 weeks.

I asked the garage owner if he was buying a roller or bentley after all this, and he told me jacks!

At this time who the fudge is buying motorway fuel?!

Retired here so do very little mileage, just as well with my car.

Wife works and has always got petrol when she’s needed it. Tesco runs out now and again but there has always been a station that has fuel.

Got to love the Gov saying they’ll make sure the petrol companies are not taking the piss. In other news reports saying they are making £30m every hours in needless price rises.

1.93 for diesel is the highest I’ve seen around my area in the North East and I can see it going way past that if things continue.

Cost me £82 to fill just over half tank the other day which is mad but something that has to be done so while it’s a big hit to take I’m not going to complain it’s one of those things we just have to accept and get on with until things see sorted out

Every time the petrol retailers increase their prices, the government makes more in VAT (fuel duty is static), just the same as they would with any other increases in non-zero rated prices. The root cause lies with the retailers and their suppliers who between them, self-evidently, make far more out of this than the government.

This is complete rubbish.

At £2 a litre of diesel, which it is or very close to near me, the UK government will take 86.26p in tax.

Therefore, diesel as a commodity, even at these extraordinary prices, is relatively cheap.

Most western governments choose to fund their functions of state in this way, they’re not putting up any upfront costs for the infrastructure to do this.

Theirs is is an absolute zero risk or cost income, it is tax.

Oil producers, and particularly the Middle East, are not responsible for how western nations function economically with taxation.

Was in North Herefordshire this afternoon. There is a local independent garage that has fuel and diesel a good 20p a litre below other garages (diesel was still about 1.70p). There was aqueue backing up the main road all the way to a set of traffic lights. Apparently its like that most of the time.

"Funny since the 1960s every time there is a war it's the exact place the UK gets it's oil and we can only get it from there so price has to go up"

That's no longer true. We get relatively little oil from the Middle East these days. The problem is twofold - (1) oil is a globally traded commodity, so it's almost irrelevant where you buy it from and (2) we get royally screwed over in this country.

Not sure this is completely accurate.

1 The UK does get the majority of oil, and gas, not from the Middle East as you say, but Norway by far and the US.

From what I gather, the UK has special, long term, arrangements with Norway to be supplied as essentially, in part, they are selling us our own oil from our territory because of high taxation and stupid net zero that we cannot/will not do ourselves.

So those long term agreements are agreed not on current prices but on long term prior agreed prices.

A small percentage of Mid East oil & gas to the UK should not be having the effect on us as it is.

Ireland? Yes.

UK? No.

Yet both countries have similar prices despite the UK being much better placed.

2 Correct, we get screwed over all the time, as per above. It’s a racket with government complicity.
