Have any of you seen it on its tour of Britain journey?

I was working not far from its route over Cumbria but couldn't manage to see it anywhere.

Living in Lincolnshire we have the Battle of Britain memorial flight every summer during armed forces weekend which includes the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire along with the odd P51 and others.

I lived in a village and my house looked down on an airstrip, the owners had a very rare MK1 Hawker Hurricane, at the time, the only one still flying that had seen action in the Battle of Britain.

The Battle of Britain memorial was at Liverpool last year, those three planes are a thing of beauty.

Good to see if you get the chance. All these older planes are getting more difficult and expensive to maintain. Soon won't be able to see some of them flying ever again.

Theres one that does flights around Northamptonshire pretty much every week, based at Sywell I think. Its engine is instantly recognisable as is its distinctive wings, cool as fk to see flying overhead

You can fly in a spitfire if you want to……..

A company based at Biggin Hill (Kent) does flights that last about an hour to an hour and a half. If you’re upto it, they will do aerobatics (a barrel roll, a loop the loop, etc.) you might even be offered the chance to take control of it! You get a good view of the Kent coastline, flying along The Channel, and it will cost you about £6,000.

I recall hearing a tumble over my house for an age and it turned out to be the BBMF Lancaster flying at about 7,000 ft over the Peak District - incredible engine sounds from these piston engines aircraft.

Near where I work is a bloke who has a private Mustang - what a noise!

I live about 10 miles from Coningsby!

Familiarity does not breed contempt in this instant though, the visceral reaction of everyone around you to that unique engine sound is something to see🙂

Nothing to report from me. I've seen a few comments online that it was flying either too high to properly see, or it was out over the sea.

Like the Biggin Hill comment.

There's a private company in Gosport near Portsmouth that has private flights for £6,000 an hour or shorter flights.

We often see the Spitfires flying above us from the nudist beach in Eastney. It's distinctive sound has everyone looking up.

A couple of years ago, one of the 2-seaters flew over here

Someone local had hired it for a birthday flight!

I’ve also, pre-covid seen one at East Lincolnshire Air Museum, where the Panton brothers have ‘Just Jane’, the taxi-able Lancaster

It’s quite surprising how close you can be as it fires up

The feeling of the pressure waves on your body is possibly even better than the sound of 4 Merlin’s

I actually noticed it spent a considerable amount of time over the sea, from barrow in furness all the way to Wales was mainly over sea.. Missed out Blackpool completely by going out over sea.

I followed it's route on my flight tracker.
