SUNDERLAND

They are trying to say it was a 16yo lad who cut it down.. it was a clear cut for a novice 16yo. It even had a line painted on it showing where to cut.

A shity thing to do, whoever did it.

The landowner probably. Give the lad a wodge of cash to take the blame knowing he will get a slap on the wrists. If the landowner had been caught, he would be in far more trouble.

The "land owner" is the National Trust!

Hasn't an adult now been arrested for this sick crime? Surely it must have been a grown-up with a powerful mechanical saw to slice so cleanly through a substantial tree trunk? Safety was obviously observed by the presence of a rope to ensure that the tree didn't fall on the guy(s) cutting it down

The person on the rope was probably the arrested lad.

There’s a hole in the landscape,

Where a sycamore stood,

It stood there alone,

Not surrounded by wood,

Now just a gap,

The tree is no more,

A vandal the culprit,

We wonder what for?

Featured in films,

Marked on the map,

It won’t be the same,

At Sycamore Gap!

Perhaps those guilty should be put away for as long as the tree had been there for!

In a solitary secure room, fed basic (but nutritious) food, let out once or twice a day for a bit of exercise, but not mixing with anyone else. The sheer loneliness would probably drive them mad. Never mind, eh……!

Fed up hearing about this tree, yes sad but it's gone. You could replace with a bronze one, but thieves would just chop it down again and run off with it. Just plant a new one.

Never heard about this tree until it was gone.

Sad, but just another news story which we’ll all forget about in a couple of days.

Someone has been and planted one but they didn’t obtain permission so they removed it.

There was a storm with strong winds that night. That might be the reason why you don’t see sawdust everywhere.

Im back baby lol Blackpool

Probably someone who is fighting for climate change and was expecting people to presume it was storm Agnus who fell the tree, but they cut too clean a line etc. Either way it's not a good look for our country yet again with idiots who are free to do what they like

There’s a very suitable dungeon in Carlisle Castle, where many Jacobites were left to perish.

I thought the 2 Channel 4 documentaries on this week were top class in covering the case from start to finish. Northumbria police should be rightly pround on the work they put in to get the convictions. Beautiful area, great people.

Simply pointing out the hypocrisy, you state on your profile - or you did before you hid it “manners cost nothing, ignorance and no respect for others just shows your worth.” and yet your post to the forum “Its a tree get over it sad fucks” shows absolutely no respect at all. By your own standards you are demonstrating little worth….

Hate to point it out but your reply to my post “whats it say about you gobshite whilst hiding behind a phone is more concerning lol” once again a little hypocritical as you your self seem to be hiding behind your phone both when you made your initial reply and subsequent ones.

You want to know why folk block you? Probably because of the respect or lack there of in your communication with them when directly messaging them if the message you left in my inbox is anything to go by.
