"Tax avoidance and tax evasion are two different things "

Sophistry. Next you'll be telling me that tax-efficient wrappers on investments aren't tax dodging, they're just entirely legal vehicles for people with enough money that they don't actually need to use all of it for day to day living expenses to hold onto more of their money and make it grow into more money they didn't actually have to work to earn.

Sorry for the long sentence. Read it slowly in small chunks and then put them back together again if that helps.

I've worked for and with enough rich people as bosses and clients to know exactly what tax dodging is. Money makes its own rules when you have enough of it to have an excess.

For some reason, unearned income is the most jealously guarded.

I agree. Tax evasion implies illegal financial avoidance tactics. Tax avoidance is using legal routes to avoid taxation.

I'm all in favour of people using fully legal routes to avoid taxation.

I'm not in favour of illegal methods.

Wherever there are taxes, there are clever tax lawyers willing to help out the "unfairly" taxed, for their generous cut of course. Win-win for all.

Absolutely. The flaw is in the law. Leave loopholes and clever tax lawyers will swim through them for you.

There is a difference between tax avoidance using something like an ISA as that is and always was designed to allow you to not pay tax on the growth or interest, has simple rules, is open to anyone and has clear limits on what you can put in each year. That is different to using loopholes in tax law to avoid paying tax by using the rules in a way they were never intended to be used and require expensive tax consultants and lawyers such as one to reduce exposure to corporation tax by billing yourself to use the company name here from another country with lower tax rates - I believe that technique has been used by a major code chain to avoid paying a lot of corporation tax on their business in the UK.

We bloody don’t. I don’t know anyone who likes him.

He’s also never answered a single question. At least not a real answer, just responds with the vague promise of fixing things with zero idea how or what he’s actually going to do.

His only interest is power and wealth, always has been. He just knows the triggers that will bring fools with money to him.

It the legality that bothers me, or more specifically the allowed legality, us…the little people get sought out and clobbered.,, sold some stuff you already bought & paid tax on, on EBay? You owe us..etc etc. You run an international scheme that avoids tax on millions of pounds …carry on. Nope not changing that law, but we must do something about ISAs those people who dream of being able to invest the maximum one year must be taxed on the 4% return… barely covering inflation.

Everyone in Frinton is over 70, their highlight is walking or riding their mobility scooter down connaught avenue buying incontinence pants from boots and going to the memorial club.

Basically it’s called capitalism.

A system used world wide and always has been.

Everyone has the oportunity to save money and invest it as they please and arrange their tax affairs within the law.

Question- Do you pay more tax than you are obliged to ? Or does that only apply to “other people”.

Capitalism as a buying/selling system has naturally been around since human beings started trading.

It has nothing to do with the date a book was published.

Sorry pal, but you are simply not correct here.

Adam Smith changed commerce entirely.

You might be meaning something else, which is commonly known as greed. A more sympathetic word would be commercialism.

But capitalism was brought about with the wealth of nations and other works around the same time.
