“Dear Donald’s” state visit

Bournemouth - Poole

This eve Trump arrives in UK to meet with the King, plus being feted by full military pageantry and a full scale banquet.

Later our Prime Minister will be forced to pay awkward homage to an ignorant and arrogant bully who bigs himself up & demeans all around him.

It’s hard to see how this can be ‘good for Britain’..??

Considering he will probably come out in the epstein files as an abuser of young women. Dont think he should be allowed near the King.i hope he is met with crowds of displeased people where ever he goes.

You mean like the King's brother and close personal friend of Epstein. Or like the recent UK ambassador to the US and "Best Pal" of Epstein.

Or to put it in a less hysterical and hyperbolic way: The President of the United States is welcomed by the King during an official State Visit, in a continuation of the strong relationship between our two countries.

Indeed it is, It's far wiser to engage with Trump diplomatically and maintain a positive relationship, rather than giving him the cold shoulder and risking his ire.

This pragmatic approach can help mitigate potential conflicts and foster more productive relationships - that's what diplomacy is all about.

Now, it'll be intriguing to see how Trump interacts with Starmer this time, especially after their last meeting where Starmer seemed weak and completely outmanoeuvred by Trump's strong assertiveness.

Would you like to inspect some soldiers standing perfectly still in a line and wearing silly 19th century ceremonial uniforms, President Bonespurs?

You know it makes sense; it will massage your fragile ego and the equally silly king will add his bit, as Starmer bends over backwards to flatter you.

Whether you love him or hate him [quite frankly I do neither] he is a powerful head of state and it is an official state visit. No one is compelled to go out and cheer and wave flags as his entourage passes by. Demonstrators will have no impact and only make fools of themselves and hopefully get soaked today for their silliness. No doubt the little pipsqueak in the London mayoral office will be getting in a fret about it. Also Sir Ed Davey will have to settle for a takeaway on his space hopper tonight.

The criminal Trump, with 34 convictions for fraud and also civil convictions for sexual deviancy is receiving the highest honour that Britain can bestow on him. This does nothing to nothing to raise how this deranged dunce is seen by the world and only drags GB down to his level, where it actually belongs, when we consider that they are both complicit in the genocide being inflicted on civilian people in Gaza. This I am sure will not effect their piss up all paid for by the taxpayer.

Conclusion jumping and misreading yet again!!! Did I say that? NO. Just expressed my opinion about what good does demonstrating do. You have to separate the man from the position he holds. He hasn’t been invited as ‘Mr Trump’ but as ‘Mr President’. 3 years from now he will be about as welcome as a fart in a lift, but until then we have to play nicely because of his world standing as the democratically elected leader the largest western country.

Appropriate that he was only welcomed off the plane at Stansted by an honour guard of RAF Regiment...known in the trade as "Rock apes". Hope it rains on his bigly parade today too.

This marks the absolute end of the UK as a proud nation, capable of looking after itself. We have to kowtow to a senile moron of a property shark whose only concern is his own personal wellbeing - not even America's - and who is visibly in cahoots with an ex-KGB fascist dictator to destroy an ally by inaction.

He’s not the first, and won’t be the last, politician to be either or both of these things. However, like it or not, he is the democratically elected leader of the most powerful nation in the west. I am wondering by what logic, and using what precedents, we have decided that our interests are served by flattering and appeasing someone who clearly wants to subvert democratic processes, remove his political opponents and (plausibly) become a dictator.

It was the decision of our government and civil servants to invite the most powerful man in the western world to visit us. So we should treat him as a guest and an honoured one at that.

I may not agree with his lifestyle or politics, but I don’t have to live with that, I didn’t vote for him.

If coming here brings jobs and money here too, that has to be good.

"[Nonsense, this is a criminal and sexual deviant and that is how he should be treated. I am well aware that this will not bother the Windsors with their family history but it does bother me as a taxpayer.

I see you are a qualified judge and jury as well as an expert on how the American people feel about their president from one of your earlier comments. You may not like him. Other people may not like him but some do. He is an elected head of state and probably one of the most powerful people on the planet. I'm not that bothered personally.

I am neither judge nor jury, this criminal has already been before both and stands convicted of everything that I accused him of being. Your apology would be appreciated.

It is interesting that you are “not that bothered” by your country being complicit in genocide, but that has nothing to do with me, it’s your business.]"

So why was he elected president and not in prison. As for me apologising expect the oceans to run dry first.

Who wasn't trying to scrap the Constitution, who didn't rule by decree, and hadn't (yet) been convicted. Debatable. And we didn't feel we had to treat him like the Second Coming in oder to achieve normal relations with his country. But hey, it's an opinion.

Obviously ... But the presence of EU flags being brandished by those protesting at Trump's presence might offer evidence for your claim that they were mostly made up of remainers.

Guessing there were no such flags in sight?

If you had any understanding of how government works in a constitutional monarch then you would know that the chimp Starmer would have arranged the state visit and merely ask HM The King to make it a formal invitation from one head of state to another. It is known as protocol. Charles could have refused but that would cause a bit of a constitutional crisis. Plus why would he? Some good might come out of this visit.

My opinion for which I am entitled. Just as you are entitled to yours. Does demonstrating ever do any good? Does it change minds? Occasionally perhaps but in this instant no. A few thousands, out on a jolly, making a song and dance about a foreign leader's state visit is hardly going to get said visit called off. The government nor President Trump will not take a blind bit of notice. Plus it will cause the taxpayers extra money for policing the demo and cleaning up afterwards.

Tax payers money gets squandered on all sorts of useless things all the time. Not sure that His Majesty King Charles or Her Majesty Queen Camilla really enjoyed their 'free party'. They were doing their duty. Would probably have preferred a quiet night in in front of the television in Clarence House.

It is known as protocol. Charles could have refused but that would cause a bit of a constitutional crisis. Plus why would he? Some good might come out of this visit. ..like what...?

Trade deals, military and other alliances etc....hows the trade deal with donny working out..?

As far as a military alliance goes....he's putins puppy at the minute..."

"Whether you love him or hate him [quite]

My opinion for which I am entitled. Just as you are entitled to yours. Does demonstrating ever do any good? Does it change minds? Occasionally perhaps but in this instant no. A few thousands, out on a jolly, making a song and dance about a foreign leader's state visit is hardly going to get said visit called off. The government nor President Trump will not take a blind bit of notice. Plus it will cause the taxpayers extra money for policing the demo and cleaning up afterwards.....you eventually admitted that demonstrating can effect change...the fact that trump "will not take q blind bit of notice " isn't really a factor...

I said on occasions. Quite rare occasions. Rarely in this country and doubt any have the slightest effect on what happens abroad or on foreign leaders. Back in 1990 the then government probably took some notice of the Poll Tax demos. Can't think of any other. All a bit of a pointless exercise and usually full of rent-a-mob out on a jolly....thanks for reiterating my point...

Well if it makes you happy "

This criminal with 34 convictions proven against him and also a sexual deviant and who knows what the Epstein files, in which he is mentioned over 2000 times will also implicate him in. Well done BBC4 for broadcasting Trump V Truth in which this turd is clearly exposed as an habitual liar. The British taxpayer has just picked up the enormous bill for entertaining this deranged dunce and his cronies with the Windsor gang of course. This happened while the civilian people of Gaza are being slaughtered and starved to death. This is revolting beyond words.

If Trump let it be known he wanted to be the only US president in history to have a second State visit then the PM and the King had no choice in the matter. Too much to lose if Trump were to feel snubbed. I suspect a lot of smiles didn’t quite reach the eyes over the last 72 hours but they had to try. Sad thing is that Trump is so capricious he could change his mind about us before his plane lands back in Washington; but not playing ball wasn’t an option. The late Queen had to be nice to some awful people because it suited her government: Ceaucescu and Mugabe to name two. A lot of people are wowed by our royal family including some of the world’s dodgiest leaders; so the Windsors have to laugh, smile and make small talk. I wouldn’t want the job.

Hear, hear! You wouldn’t come up with an hereditary monarchy if you were starting from scratch today but they do a good job. Anne and Edward launch lifeboats, open community centres and new hospital departments. None of it is especially glamorous but it means a lot to the people involved in the project. Who else would do it? Some clapped out politician? A celebrity - they’d want a fee. Charles was talking about the environment long before it was fashionable and the Prince’s Trust has helped thousands. Charles is eccentric and doesn’t have his mother’s star quality but he’s a good man doing his best. Diana had star quality as well but she was treated badly and she let it be known. Camilla has never complained or explained, and she and Charles seem contentedly happy together. Hopefully in time Charlotte and Louis will launch lifeboats, visit old folks day centres and hand the prizes out at Wimbledon.

Regardless of personal views surrounding Donald Trump, he holds the office of President of the United States and as such its the office he holds that is visiting Britain, one of our better allies. So due respect should be afforded to said office and the visit. If Starmer as our PM visited the USA would we expect he be afforded the same respect? Respect the office not the person holding it, the person changes every few years the office does'nt.

Putting politics & personality aside for a moment...

The logistics of organising an event like that are enormous. Getting everyone in the right place at the right time, properly dressed, fed & watered with the eyes of the world watching is no small achievement. In all the news coverage I haven't heard any criticism of these arrangements. It's something we do well in this country.

I know it's their job but all concerned should award themselves a well deserved pat on the back.

Jimmy Kimmel? I think he got suspended for claiming on air that Charlie Kirk's murderer was a Republican "

"One of them" need not mean a Republican. Equally likely that he meant a gun enthusiast, like most MAGA "Christians". Including Kirk. Anyway, he was certainly very rude about the Dear Leader and would have ended up in Siberia if he had waited for the Supreme Commander to hand the rest of Ukraine to Putin...

Bit of context for you -

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.

“In between the grieving on Friday, The White House flew their flags at half-staff which got some criticism,” he continued, “but on a human level, you can see how hard the President is taking this.” The late show host then played a clip of Trump answering questions from the press about how he was holding up following Kirk’s passing. Trump responds, saying that he was “very good,” before shifting the conversation to talk about the construction of the White House’s new ballroom.

“He’s at the fourth state of grief: Construction,” Kimmel joked. “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."

Kimmel - Suspended by his employer ABC ... Not fired by Donald Trump.

(You are getting it confused with his old Apprentice show)

Strangely, or perhaps disturbingly, leftists are far more outraged by his suspension than they are by the cold-blooded murder of Charlie Kirk.

I'm sure Jimmy K will launch a new podcast on YouTube soon ... Then he can bleat about Trump as much as he likes.

I'm sure that's the official line, but it's nitpicking. Obviously it was his employer who fired him, but why?

Aha...

https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a67950912/jimmy-kimmel-suspended-abc--kirk-comments-explained/

The move followed comments made by Nexstar Media and Sinclair Broadcast Group, the two largest owners of TV stations in the country. Nexstar stated that it, “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Meanwhile, Sinclair announced their plans to replace Kimmel’s usual time slot with a Charlie Kirk tribute special. According to Variety, Sinclair “has long had a reputation for having a politically conservative tilt.”

......

Variety also reported that Nexstar is currently awaiting FCC approval on a pending deal to acquire another broadcast company, Tenga, for roughly $6.2 billion. Per the outlet, “A Nexstar spokesman declined to comment on whether that pending deal played a role in the company’s decision making.”

The FCC, eh? The Federal Communications Commission? Nothing to do with government, of course. Pure accident that Trump appointed its head honcho...
