Yip, shades of the 1930s again. If they had been in that airspace for a minute or so you could allow for a mistake but no, those cunts are pushing Nato! 12 minutes was ample time to down the bastards.

Try flying into Russian airspace for 12 minutes and seewhat happens !!

Just around the corner

Russian aircraft have almost certainly been in UK airspace for more than 12 minutes this month. It’s nothing new, and probably not triggering WWIII for.

Putin is sabre rattling. Testing the patience of the west. Probably wanted NATO to shoot down his planes. Although he has failed miserably to defeat Ukraine he might succeed in over-running tiny Estonia. Start WWIII, get his allies involved and start throwing nuclear weapons at the West. The man is completely barmy.

"Russian aircraft have almost certainly been in UK airspace for more than 12 minutes this month. It’s nothing new, and probably not triggering WWIII for."

According to the Estonian defence minister "It is unprecedented that for 12 minutes the Russians were in our airspace."

I'd have thought he would know what he was talking about

That doesn’t mean everything he says has to be taken at face value though, does it?

He is still a politician and still performing for the circumstance.

It just happens to confirm to our biases so we are happy to shine a magnifying glass on it and react very strongly without knowing what lies behind it.

You always seem contrary. The UK does not overfly Russian air space. That ended years ago. And if you actually thought about it with all seriousness you would know why.

Yes you looking for a fight and contrary. You are over all the posts poking and disagreeing.

It's simple to see. Try agreeing with a post for just one time, spreading a positive vibe. You might find it does you the world of good.

If you can't then try not to put people down and give facts and reasoning to your point.

You fall well short on all of the above.

Russia has always flown into our airspace in the UK, usually with it old "bear" planes on reconnaissance missions. We then send up planes to chase them away. Its very common.

However, as russia has said that the drones entering nato airspace is a false flag, this may be harder for them to justify.

Considering NATO's had a selection of electronic surveillance planes circling Kaliningrad and touring the Russian/ Belorus border more or less continuously for months, I imagine the Russians are just as eager to assess our capabilities. I hope we didn't show them more than absolutely necessary.

Shooting their planes down could be interpreted as a "justification" to move the current Russian/Belorus joint exercises towards the Baltics. So probably not a good idea. And we can probably get some useful data on Russian procedures too.

Was listening to PM program on BBC Radio 4 on the way home from work, they were talking to their European expert.

She explained that this happens very frequently and NATO has a procedure in place where they deploy other nations airforces to patrol the incurred airspace’s of Estonia 🇪🇪 , Latvia 🇱🇻 Lithuania 🇱🇹, Poland 🇵🇱 etc to help chase out the Russian fighters. This is what happened and why the Russian fighters were in Estonian airspace for 12 minutes, she also said it has made the headlines because of the Russian Drones last week.

The old "bear" planes, NEVER entered UK airspace, they flew parallel to it. Indeed when RAF Leuchars was active the QRA aircraft could be heard very often thundering off into the night sky in the early hours. These "milk runs" as they were nicknamed are described in detail in a very good book named F4 Phantom if you want more details.

Why should I agree with something which I think is wrong?

Why are you just attacking me but with no substantive point to make on the topic? But at the same time calling me the contrary one?

Isn’t this a discussion forum? Isn’t a discussion where people put different points of view over and talk about them? Or are you only here to be agreed with?

That’s fair enough, I can see why they are concerned but I don’t see that this is something for a bunch of old men on a male hookup forum to start raising their blood pressure about.

Russia will test the resolve of NATO with a small attack in the baltics within the next few years. Probably before the Trump term runs out. He's already achieved some of his goals by splitting UK from EU and assisting to get an American president in the white house that is a NATO sceptic.

Not bothered whatsoever. Estonia, Romania and Poland and Lithuania are all EU countries who tried to frustrate Brexit and tried to make life as difficult as possible for us so I would say to Russia just help yourself. Its time the whole of former German East Prussia is united again for the first time since 1945, so thats the Klaipeda area of Lithuania, the Masurian Lakes region in Poland and Kaliningrad. Beautiful part of the world.

Surprising perhaps, but it's possible that few if any actual incursions happened because they were nipped in yhe bud over the North Sea or the Fareoes Gap

with their transponders turned off, Vladi? But no doubt that will be enough to mollify Trump. With whatever the FSB has on him, obvs.

In a world of my own

One of these days a point where ‘resolve’ is tested to the limit. The trouble with ‘playing chicken’ which is being played out to some extent on both sides, but increasingly by Russia, is worryingly knowing exactly ‘when to flinch’.

A mistake of intent from either side is great, the consequences huge, but there are strict rules followed over ‘policing of such incursions’.

I trust the professionalism within cockpits of NATO aircraft, recall what Cromwell stated, ‘put your faith in God and keep your powder dry’!

Yes those guys in the cockpits are extremely skilled. However Turkey shot one of the Russian bastards down so hopefully, next time (which will be soon) NATO will do the right thing again.

Russian demographics are horrendous. Men die from AIDS, alcoholism, heart attacks and now war. The functions of the state are being hollowed out by the kleptocracy. Just sit tight and Russia will implode again, this time because of greed and a lack of population.

It’s sad as some of the most intelligent and creative people come from Russia. But they all seem to have Stockholm Syndrome - they can talk about freedom and then in the same breath espouse the need for a powerful leader.

Putin has today transferred Alexander Lapin, the commander of Leningrad Military District, to a non military job in Tatarstan. Part of the Military District, the Borisovsky Khotilovo airbase flies MiG 31s, and this is about as close as it gets to Estonia.

I am wondering if Lapin may have exceeded his authority.
