Heard a bizarre conversation in the pub last night between two estate agents. One stated that the flags in housing estates were helping prospective buyers as to where to avoid buying! Thoughts?

To be fair, in Brum it's extremely polarised. That statement could apply to both the St George's Cross/Union flag or to the Palestinian flag, depending on which insular ghettoised netherworld you wish to avoid like the plague.

I'm lucky to live in a neighbourhood that as neither, although I'm also quite Wythall-adjacent

It’s not really bizarre, most of the Uk can see thinly dressed racism for what it is and don’t like it.

All the guff about patriotism is transparent bullshit or said with conviction by people who are very happy to turn a blind eye.

Lots of LGBT etc flags in Brighton. There was a spate of union jacks and england flags a couple of weeks ago but they've blown away and not been replaced. Probably half hearted band wagon jumping. I don’t think there were many in residential areas anyway.

So what’s better about doing it from lamp posts? Surely if you are so patriotic, and it’s not a racial thing at all, you will want people to see it is you who is doing it?

Because on a lamppost you're taking back control! The public space element is symbolic, and blares patriotism. A flag in your garden just says Here Be One Patriot. Not half as effective.

Half a dozen flags on lampposts in a street makes it look as if everybody's in on it. Half a dozen on houses on a street of maybe a hundred for a given postcode is less impressive.

There is one on the borders of Yardley Wood and Hall Green. All whitewashed with a bloody great St George's flag and a big fuck-you rose painted on the wall. Dates from well before the current spate of Tommeh-analingus though. It's been there for years.

I've heard it reported that the daughter of the household married an Asian chap, no idea of the veracity though as I give it no thought beyond "twat" when I drive past.

The flags go up during the day to. Teams of older young lads masked and uniformly dressed , on a high of excitement, with minders in the wings happy to shape up if you say anything.

Of the few locals I speak to who've been involved all have said they were in touch with groups from out of town who organised the ladders and ties.

This is manufactures consent for Farage. With a side helping of homeland, Britain first, scorpion hunters, British patriots, Robinson and his Advance party.

Try taking them down and see how peaceful these guys are and see how much local resistance you actually get.

IMHO Lots of flags probably equals thick and chavy neighbours who probably hate blacks and queers. You probably don’t need an estate agent’s “insights” to figure that one. Since you asked….Plus, If you want to test that out pop over to parts of Ulster where they have been hanging quaint flags for decades.

Now there's an idea. If the Tommeh boys wanted to form a private army to go over to Europe and hunt down and terminate the ones who are really behind this, the vile extortionist people smuggling gangs, they'd come back as genuine heroes. I'd even give them a clap.

That's assuming they didn't get their pasty arses kicked and dumped in a hole. It's one thing talking a big fight when you're chucking bricks at a hotel in Essex with your footie mates, quite a different one taking on professional criminals from parts of the world where the sanctity of life means nothing.

The Union Flag of Gt Brittain & Northern Ireland is currently flying in my garden on a properly manufactured flag pole and has done so for over 35 years.

On certain days of the year (sadly too many) it is lowered to half staff in memory and respect to friends and comrades who fell whilst on active service.

When I make my final journey my oldest will drape the Union flag over my coffin and I will leave this corrupted world to dwell in the incorruptable crown kingdom of Gods heaven.

I am patriotic to the Monarch and his country & have been all my life.

I think most of it's fair enough to be honest. Especially the flag as a mark of respect for servicemen and women, I totally agree with that (even if not the dubious causes some of them have died for). But that's a different subject really.

Flying a flag is an expression of freedom , I may not like the flag that is being flown , but I am tolerant of others. The cross of St George is Englands flag and is flown from church spires and public buildings frequently through the year .

The conflation of flying a flag and racism is not one I automatically make .

I'll admit to feelings of liberal white-flight guilt when departing Moseley for the greener pastures of toytown (Dickens Heath) but on the other hand our flat (gated) is:

Unlikely to be broken into while we're asleep (happened first month in Moseley)

Unlikely to witness high speed death crashes (happened first year in Moseley and the guy died about ten yards away from my wife, who still carries a bit of trauma)

Unlikely to have crazies who should really be institutionalised for their own safety screaming at the sky (happened pretty much every week in Moseley)

And that's just fuckin Moseley, still amazingly regarded as one of the more desirable burbs. You couldn't pay me to live back there.

"So what’s better about doing it from lamp posts? Surely if you are so patriotic, and it’s not a racial thing at all, you will want people to see it is you who is doing it?

Because on a lamppost you're taking back control! The public space element is symbolic, and blares patriotism. A flag in your garden just says Here Be One Patriot. Not half as effective.

Also, they can be seen at night as well but only if the wind is at Beaufort 3 or more.

Most of the time, they hang limply. Quite apt. "

Most are barely at half mast

And some need cable ties to keep them up.

"Last month someone painted the England flag on a roundabout in Llandudno... Police are investigating

Dragons are too hard to paint I guess."

Someone did one on a roundabout in Llandudno.

The dragon was small and a bit shit.

It was also facing the wrong way.

The council weren't too pleased.

I think it was the 'fuck the english' written above it swung it.

It's almost as if flags and paintings on roundabouts could appear absolutely anywhere.

It would be dreadful if one moved house to get away from some flags and 2 weeks after moving in some appeared on ones avenue.

One would simply have one’s staff deal with the situation

Goats are fucking awesome. Goats are not trouble. If you have a goat infestation and have a problem with it, you need help. Anybody possessed of sanity would welcome goats.

I really like goats. Know why? Because even more than cats they do not give one flying fuck about your human issues. They're the ultimate egotists/anarchists and only give a shit about what they're going to eat next (probably your laundry on the line or your carefully nurtured flowers).

Got a goat curry takeaway from a Jamaican chippy in Lozells once. It was awesome.

From my experience (I owned a huge white Saanen billy once, he was a hooligan of the highest order) goats would apply their talents to knocking all the pans off the stove then kicking the kitchen table over.

Like I said, total anarchists.

In a world of my own

You can’t judge an individual status area by the amount of flags or paint, culprits move about.

" One stated that the flags in housing estates were helping prospective buyers as to where to avoid buying! Thoughts?"

If the potential buyers are self-hating Brits or migrant runners, great, I'll buy a flag.

There has been a plethora of saltires tied to lampposts in my neighborhood lately. It's a quite an impressive sight. Whether or not it offends those who aren't Scottish remains to be seen. I would like to have seen some Lion Rampants fluttering in the breeze.

Lions girdled etc

Palestinian flags would also get the locals talking.

I like this, if people want flags to represent what’s in the UK, let’s give them the flags!!

My local high street has shops run by people from:

England

Scotland

Wales

N Ireland

Ireland

Egypt

Germany

France

Turkey

Syria

Iraqi Kurdistan

Somalia

Australia

China

India

Bangladesh

Italy

Romania

That’s just the ones I know. If they want flags, let’s give them flags!!

Sounds idyllic, what a great neighbourhood - I don't have a local high street, but a few supermarkets and retail park nearby

It is not perfect but it’s very nice. A few too many nail bars and hairdressers, but amongst that there’s a greengrocer, baker, butcher, gateaux shop(!), micro pub, 2 pubs, Indian/Chinese takeaways, Dim Sum cafe, loads of normal cafes, hipster coffee shop, opticians, Iceland, medium Tesco, Gym, library, fried chicken shops, chip shop, gambling addiction perpetuator, funeral parlour, household goods shop, car sellers, garage, convenience stores, Jamaican takeaway (forgot to add that to the earlier list!) sweet shop and post office.

Oh and some churches.

I think that covers it 🤣
