Just as much to do with the public, I'd say. The Kennel Club doesn't operate in a vacuum, and it has to reflect public fads. Unfortunately, the public wants some pretty weird animals, intentionally inbred, and marketed like clothes fashions. I agree about the GSD, but good ones still exist...

Used to have labradors, which are excellent dogs.

Now got a cocker spaniel. Best dog I’ve ever had.

Loyal, bonkers, and in the 12 years we’ve had her, her tail has never stopped wagging except when she’s asleep, and sometimes not even then!
